How to calculate round-trip spot cost
Buy fee equals buy turnover times the buy rate; sell fee equals sell turnover times the sell rate; round-trip fees are their sum. Apply a token discount only after the account confirms it is active rather than assuming a promotional rate.
Use the actual account tier and fill type. A limit order is not automatically maker. It generally receives maker treatment only when it rests and adds liquidity; an immediately executed limit order can still be taker.
Translate fees into a break-even move
Ignoring slippage, the break-even move must cover both sides. At 0.1% on both buy and sell, simple round-trip cost is about 0.2% of turnover. A 0.15% rise can still leave a loss after fees.
The real break-even point also depends on spread, slippage, partial fills, and fee currency. The calculator covers the fee layer only and is not an exact guaranteed-profit threshold.
A small worked example
For a 1,000 USDT buy at 0.1%, the fee is about 1 USDT. Selling 1,050 USDT at 0.1% costs about 1.05 USDT, for 2.05 USDT total. A 50 USDT gross gain becomes about 47.95 USDT before slippage and spread.
If no sale occurs, do not count the example sell fee as incurred. For partial fills, sum each fill amount using its applicable rate.
A round trip is not simply the rate doubled
Both sides charge once, but on different bases: the buy fee applies to the buy turnover and the sell fee to the sell turnover. If the price rises before you sell, the second fee is larger in absolute terms.
The calculator lists both legs separately and reports an effective rate: total fees divided by the buy turnover. That is the figure comparable to how far the price must move to break even.
FAQ
Are fees based on order size or filled size?
Fees are generally based on filled turnover, while unfilled portions usually incur no trading fee. Use the platform fill history.
Should I enter a promoted or account-confirmed token discount?
Enter only a discount shown as active on the account or order screen. Use zero when disabled, unfunded, or unavailable in your region.
Is a 0.02% maker-taker gap worth using limit orders?
It depends on turnover and fill probability. On a 100,000 USDT round trip, 0.02% is about 20 USDT; on 1,000 USDT it is 0.2. At small sizes the price you give up when a limit order does not fill usually exceeds the fee you save.
How do I enter a token-discount rate?
Apply the discount to the rate, not the turnover. Read the post-discount maker/taker values from your account fee page and enter those. If the venue rebates after the fact, actual cash flow will lag the figure shown here.
Sources and verification
Sources prioritize protocol, network, and exchange documentation. External pages can change; signed-in confirmation screens remain authoritative for fees and account status.
